Mr Greenhalgh suffered a fractured skull, a 20cm V-shaped wound to his head, a 8cm V-shaped wound to his forehead and a wound to his thumb. The jury was shown photos of the injuries sustained by both victims. Ms Holland said she tried to intervene and protect her boyfriend and was hit on the leg. It is alleged Huggins took an axe from the waistband of his trousers and hit Mr Greenhalgh on the head, saying 'I'm going to f*****g kill you'.ĭhers is alleged to have shouted 'Get him D, f*****g get him D'. Ms Elder said: "She then saw Dhers turn his attention to Mr Greenhalgh who was being attacked." She tried to fight back but he swung again, breaking her arm in two places. She said Dhers swung the bat at her head, connecting with the left side. She remembered Huggins running at her partner while she was attacked with a baseball bat by Dhers. Ms Holland later told police she recognised Mr Huggins, whom she had known for about 10 years, but not the other man. Using those weapons they attacked Mr Greenhalgh and Ms Holland." They then took a bus which took them close to home in Bennett Square. "Following a workout they walked back to the centre of Exeter and bought food at Efes Grill in Sidwell Street. They met after work as was their habit and went to the gym in Marsh Barton. Ms Elder said: "Dominic Greenhalgh and Anne Marie Holland started their evening in an ordinary way. Huggins is said to have enlisted the help of his cousin, Dhers, to carry out the attack. The background involved a falling out between Mr Greenhalgh and Huggins. Prosecutor Ms Fiona Elder said the incident happened at about 9.30pm on May 6. Huggins admits being at the scene but says he took no part in the attack. They lay in wait in a cut-through near their home before launching the attack.ĭhers admits some part in the violence, but denies attempted murder.
